This is your captain speaking. We've crash landed at the frontal lobe. Please vacate the plane with care. We don't know what you might find on the outside...but it will most probably be quite fucked up

This weekend is apparently known as the bank holiday weekend.
While every other youth went out to poison themselves with drinks containing ethanol (chemical name for a type of alcohol, for the err *special* people reading my blog), what do me and my friends do…?
Make bronze by melting and combining copper with tin!! That’s right! We’re the true non-conformists, the faggy kids who talk about being rebels yet do what everyone else does… we laugh in their face! *muahahaha*

Anyhow back to the making bronze thing…
It involves digging up some clay, rummaging through skips/construction sites to find copper pipes/wires and purchasing some lead free solder (mainly made out of tin).
The clay is carefully washed and moulded into the shape of a crucible.

Next we chop up some wood to start the fire in the forge, once that gets going we put in some charcoal, followed by placing the crucible in there to dry up the clay and to test whether it will hold.
When the clay crucible passes the test, copper (broken down pieces of pipe/wire) is placed in the crucible, when it melts we chuck a small amount of tin in and you end up with bronze!

Here are some photos from a session we had a few days ago…

Left to right (for whoever cares…) Nick, Abdul (me!), Paul, Chris
The yellow thing in the middle is the forge where we light the fire and stick the metal in:

something simple to start off with… might move to more complicated things as we perfect our technique of making moulds etc.
